Small Sanxian Strings

The three strings of the sanxian run from thin to thick as zixian, zhongxian and laoxian, which is the order of the numbers 1, 2 and 3 on the Beijing Xinghai singles. Buying them one at a time means you replace only the string that broke, yet all three age together, so once the laoxian sounds dull and the zixian will not hold its pitch a full change is worth more than a patch. The small sanxian and the large sanxian differ in string length and tension, and their strings are not interchangeable, so know which instrument you play before you order. Bringing the old string in to our Taipei shop is the quickest way to be certain.
