Double Bass Strings

Solo and orchestra are not grades of quality. A solo string is built for solo tuning, a whole tone above orchestral pitch (F sharp, B, E, A), and its tension is calculated at that pitch, so fitting one to an orchestra-tuned bass leaves it slack and thin. The Pirastro Flexocor and Flexocor Deluxe here are sold as singles with the tuning marked on each, while the D'Addario Prelude and Helicore come as sets cut to the size of the instrument rather than in one length. Measure your bass before you order, and change one string at a time so the bridge stays where it belongs.
