Cello Strings

On a cello the top two strings and the bottom two do different jobs: the A and D set the brightness and the speed of response, while the G and C carry the line of the low register. That is why our Taipei shop keeps Spirocore as separate G and C strings and as a G-plus-C pair, since they are meant to sit under an A and D chosen from another maker. Within one brand the medium and the strong gauges differ in volume and in how hard the string pushes back under the finger, so begin at medium if you are undecided. Fractional players are covered: Jargar Young comes in 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4, Prelude spans 4/4 down to 1/4, and Larsen sets are made in 3/4 and 1/2.
