Guzheng Strings

Guzheng strings are ordered by number, and the numbering runs against the pitch: string 1 is the thickest and lowest, string 21 the thinnest and highest, so give us the number rather than a description. Replacing a single broken string is the quick job and leaves the movable bridges untouched; replacing every string keeps the tone even from bottom to top, but you then reposition each bridge and keep retuning for several days while the new strings stretch and drop in pitch. Tension varies between makers and between the Dunhuang A and B types, so when you are only replacing one string, match what is already on the instrument.
