The Chinese National Orchestral Society (China Nationalities Orchestra Society, CNOS) is a state-level, first-class association with legal-person status, approved by the State Council Ministry of Culture and registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs. It is a nationwide, non-governmental academic body made up of musicians dedicated to the cause of Chinese national orchestral arts. Its members are found throughout the country in professional fields such as folk-music performance, teaching, and research.

The "Erhu Grading Tutorial" is an established title in the "Newly Compiled Chinese National Orchestral Society Social Arts-Level Grading Tutorial Series," divided into four volumes. "Erhu Grading Tutorial, Grades 1–4" is the beginner-level tutorial. Each grade contains roughly 20 études and pieces, and each volume concludes with a "Table of Commonly Used Erhu Performance Symbols." All pieces have considerable appreciative value.
