Vice Chairman of the Ruan Professional Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society and Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Nationalities Orchestra Society. In 1978 he was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music by special exception, and in 1982 he graduated from the China Conservatory of Music. He studied under Pinghu-school pipa master Yang Shaoyi; learned daruan and zhongruan under Wang Zhongbing and Pang Yuzhang; studied guqin under Professor Li Xiangting; and from 1985 studied Chang'an ancient music under Yu Zhu, a member of a renowned Chang'an ancient-music family. He has published more than sixty ruan pieces, including "Camel Bells on the Silk Road," "Ancient Tunes of the Zhongnan Mountains," "Moon over the Jade Tower," and "Gazing at the Qin Plain," works rich in distinctive northwestern regional character that have become an important part of the professional ruan curriculum.
