Farewell to Mountains and Rivers: Zhang Hongyan Pipa Solo Recital (CD + DVD)

Description

This is a CD and DVD set documenting Zhang Hongyan's pipa solo recital. The recital was recorded live in audio and video in 2017 at the National Recital Hall in Taipei, organized and accompanied by the Chinese Orchestra of Qinyuan. Through the heartfelt voice of the pipa, Zhang Hongyan recreates the original sounds of mountains and waters, displaying her exquisite pipa technique, abundant talent, and highly expressive musicality. Her playing brings forth the marvelous original sound of the pipa, taking landscape music as its scenery to present the pipa's pure tone. Zhang Hongyan is a Chinese pipa performer and educator who studied under her father Zhang Shijun and, during her studies at the Central Conservatory of Music, under Professors Sun Weixi and Lin Shicheng. After graduating from the Central Conservatory of Music she has taught there ever since, and has served as a visiting scholar at Columbia University in the United States, teaching students courses in pipa and Chinese music.
