A renowned erhu performer and educator. Born in 1954 in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. He entered the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in 1977. In 1979 he won two first prizes in the conservatory's music competition and was selected to tour numerous countries abroad with the Central Conservatory of Music's Folk Orchestra. He has since been invited many times to lecture and perform in Germany, France, Italy, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and elsewhere. After completing his undergraduate studies in the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in 1982, he joined its teaching staff. He is currently a professor in the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, a master's-degree supervisor, a member of the conservatory's Academic Committee, a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, a member of the Artists Division of the China Talent Research Society, Vice President of the China Erhu Society, and a director of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society, among other positions.
