Jinghu Accompaniment and Teaching Studies

Mr. Wu Bingzhang served as the first chairman of the Music Department of the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts. He is the most senior, most prolific, and most renowned jinghu professor in the academy's music department. His students are spread across the country; his teaching achievements are evident to all in the Peking opera world and are universally acclaimed within the Peking opera instrumental field. Because of Mr. Wu's outstanding teaching achievements, the academy's music department held a special event in 2004 to commemorate his fiftieth year of teaching. I recall that on that day, many qin masters and relevant experts from within and beyond the capital gathered at the academy; in the morning they discussed and summarized Mr. Wu's teaching experience, and in the afternoon they showcased his teaching results in the form of a concert. Mr. Wu, hale and hearty, also took the stage to play the qin, drawing wave after wave of applause from the audience.
