A renowned erhu performer and educator. He is currently a professor in the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, a doctoral supervisor, a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, a committee member of the Artists Division of the China Talent Research Society, Vice President of the Chinese Erhu Society, and a director of the Chinese National Orchestral Society. In 1977 he was admitted to the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, studying under the renowned erhu performer and educator Professor Wang Guotong. In 1979 he won two first prizes in a music competition held at the conservatory, and was selected to tour the United Kingdom, Ireland, Iraq, and other countries with the Central Conservatory of Music's folk orchestra to give concerts. He later traveled many times to the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and many other countries and regions to lecture and perform.
