A native of Shanghai, erhu educator and performer, professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and master's-degree supervisor. He is Honorary President of the Huqin Professional Committee of the Chinese Folk Orchestral Association and Vice Chairman of the Abing Art Committee of the Chinese Folk Orchestral Society.

Wang Yongde has compiled teaching materials including 'Youth Learn the Erhu,' 'Arpeggio Exercises for the Erhu,' and 'Chinese Erhu Grading Materials · Performance Tips Edition.' In 1993 he was granted the State Council special expert allowance by the Ministry of Culture; in 2008 he received the Outstanding Literary and Artistic Talent Fund Award from the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee; in 2013 he was named an Advanced Individual in Public Culture of Shanghai; in 2015 he received the Outstanding Award for Science and Education Work by Senior Professors of Shanghai; and in 2016 he was conferred the Lifetime Contribution Award in Folk Music Art by the Chinese Folk Orchestral Association.
