Jiang Guoji is a renowned dizi performer, a National First-Class Performer, and a solo performer with the Zhejiang Song and Dance Troupe. Born in 1950 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. He studied under the dizi master Zhao Songting. At the 1976 National Solo Singing and Solo Instrumental Competition, Jiang Guoji rose to prominence with his performance of "Boat Song of the Water Country." He went on to win first prizes one after another, his reputation growing steadily, and was hailed by domestic and foreign press as a "rare divine flutist" and a "dizi performer full of charm." Jiang Guoji's playing is rooted in the Southern School while drawing widely on the strengths of others: he both inherits and develops the essence of Southern-School dizi and takes up the merits of the Northern School, forming a distinctive artistic style of his own. He is also highly accomplished on the xiao, bawu, koudi and other instruments. He has composed and arranged a great many dizi pieces, his representative works including "Boat Song of the Water Country" and "Mulberry-Picking Song."
