Unknown Resonance | An Improvised Music Performance at the Intersection of Experimental Sound and Physical Performance

Lin’s Culture Focus|Unknown Resonance

Thelonious Hamel × Jenny Szabo × Lin Hsiao-Feng × Sayun Chang × Lisa Teng

An Improvised Encounter Across Electronic Sound, Flute, Percussion, and Physical Performance

On October 27, Lin’s Culture Focus brings together European sound artist Thelonious Hamel and physical performance artist Jenny Szabo with Taiwanese musicians Lin Hsiao-Feng, Sayun Chang, and Lisa Teng for an improvised dialogue spanning electronic sound, flute, percussion, electric guitar, and physical performance.

Hamel’s practice moves between electronic music, free improvisation, environmental sound, and noise art. Working with clarinet, field recordings, electronic equipment, and self-built resonant instruments, he explores the dynamic relationships between sound, space, and perception. Szabo’s work centers on physical theatre and interdisciplinary creation, investigating the interplay between the body, digital technologies, and live sound.

Taiwanese musician Lin Hsiao-Feng explores contemporary possibilities for traditional instruments through the sounds of flutes from diverse musical cultures. Sayun Chang brings together world percussion, traditional rhythms, and improvisation, while Lisa Teng expands the expressive boundaries of sound and space through electric guitar and experimental electronics.

Through listening, responding, and improvising in real time, the five artists allow their distinct sonic languages to intersect and evolve. Without a predetermined outcome, their creative exchange gradually unfolds into a singular musical landscape—one that can only emerge in the moment.

On October 27, step into Lin’s Culture Focus and experience how the unknown takes shape in the here and now.
