About Chin-Yuan Chinese Orchestra

Founded in 1988, Qin-Yuan Chinese Orchestra is a professional music ensemble dedicated to the preservation, development, and promotion of traditional Chinese music.

From 2001 to 2013, the orchestra was repeatedly recognized by Taiwan’s Council for Cultural Affairs as an “Outstanding Performing Arts Group” and a “Supported Development Group.” From 2013 to 2017, it was recognized by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture as an “Outstanding Development Group.”

Between 1995 and 2011, Qin-Yuan presented 22 concerts in the Masters and Masterpieces of Chinese Bamboo Flute series at the National Theater and Concert Hall in Taipei. The series brought dozens of leading bamboo-flute performers from mainland China to Taiwan for artistic exchange, with performances systematically documented and released through audio and video recordings.

In 2011, the orchestra created a new form of performance with the musical theater production The Tang Dynasty: The Legend of Li Mo, combining music and storytelling in an accessible and engaging format.

In 2012, it presented When East Meets West: Piazzolla’s Four Seasons. In February 2014, at the invitation of Heidelberg University, the production toured Germany and Switzerland, with nine performances at Heidelberg University, the University of Tübingen, Goethe University Frankfurt, the Small Hall of the Munich Philharmonic, and the White Fathers Catholic Church in Switzerland.

In 2016, the orchestra presented the multimedia musical theater production The Return of Wenji to the Han.

Storyteller Musical Theater

Qin-Yuan’s Storyteller Musical Theater series has become an important part of its creative work, combining traditional music with storytelling and theatrical presentation.

In 2015, The Tang Dynasty: The Legend of Li Mo was nominated for the Ministry of Culture’s Traditional Arts Golden Melody Awards in the category of Best Traditional Performing Arts Audio/Visual Publication.

The production has toured extensively in Taiwan and internationally, with performances at cultural centers and major venues in Taiwan, as well as in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Wuxi, Shandong, Nanning, Hong Kong, and other cities.

From 2015 to 2017, the orchestra presented The Dadaocheng Trilogy:

2015| Dadaocheng
2016| The Story of Dadaocheng
2017| The Glory of Dadaocheng

Other notable productions and performances include:

2018| The Legend of Li Mo at Songyan Eslite; Qin-Yuan’s 30th Anniversary Taipei International Bamboo Flute & Wind Instrument Festival
