《Improvisation 21》 Album Concept
Musical improvisation is the most direct means of cross-disciplinary and multicultural fusion and exchange. The improvising performer is at once the composer; through the creative inspiration of the present moment, music comes alive on stage, expressing the performer's rhetoric, the spirit of the age, and their cultural experience. On 《Improvisation 21》, the musicians blend a rich array of instruments and musical styles—including nose flute, hulusi, dizi, xiao, jew's harp, pipa, erhu, zheng, morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), throat singing (khoomei), oud, harpsichord, and Kunqu opera. It is truly a brand-new musical experience.
The album invites improvising musicians from a variety of musical fields. Chinese-music performers Lin Xiaofeng, Su Yunhan, Wang Yingjie, and Wang Yuanping draw on the melodic and rhythmic elements of differing flavors found in traditional Chinese music and the folk music of many regions, enriched by the unique playing and ornamentation techniques of each instrument.
