Author: Jiao Jinhai
A renowned guzheng performer, zheng-music composer, and zheng-music theorist, and the founder of the "Jiao School of Zheng." Born in Anyang, Henan, in 1939. He studied under Cao Dongfu and graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in 1963. He has served as a guzheng soloist with the Central Broadcasting National Orchestra and the Hunan Provincial Broadcasting and Television Art Troupe, as a professor in the Music Department of Xiamen University, as a specially appointed professor in the Music Department of Hunan Institute of Science and Technology, as vice-chair of the Chinese Zheng Society, and as vice-chair of the Guzheng Society of the China Musicians Association.
Jiao Jinhai has achieved remarkable distinction and renown in guzheng performance, composition, and theory alike. Beyond being known for the "Jiao School of Zheng," he is celebrated as a guzheng master who "learns from tradition without being bound by it, able to imbue traditional guzheng music with modernity and link it closely to the pulse of the times."
